About Thomas J. Purgason, MD, FACP, PA
Thomas J. Purgason, MD is a board certified internal medicine physician who has practiced in Arlington, Texas since 1982. Dr. Purgason graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He did his internal medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa Medical College. He is a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Physicians. In addition, Dr. Purgason serves as a clinical instructor for the University of Texas at Arlington Nurse Practitioner program and UTMB and UT Southwestern schools of medicine. He is clinically affiliated with UT Southwestern making all of the resources of the medical school more easily accessible to his patients.
Dr. Purgason practices adolescent and adult medicine. He has held numerous leadership positions in the community and was the youngest physician to receive the Arlington Physician of the Year Award from the Arlington Medical Society. He has served as Chief of Staff at Medical City Arlington and Chief of the Department of Medicine. He has served on the Board of Trustees at Medical City Arlington since 2010. Dr. Purgason also serves in leadership positions at his alma mater institutions.
His philosophy of practice is to provide prompt, thorough care and diagnosis. He strives to be available if the need is urgent and to provide comprehensive care even during hospitalization. His office runs on time with respect for the patient’s personal time. He believes in rapid reporting of all testing done be it imaging or laboratory in nature. In this practice, you will speak to a person when calling in hopes of assisting you with your needs as soon as possible.
